The Spartan

Scott's Seafood

I have shared with you stories from Scott’s Restaurants about some of our long-term friends and guests, our long-time employees, and our loyal vendors. I would like to take this opportunity to brag about the General Manager for Scott’s Restaurants in Walnut Creek – Matt Padilla – the “Spartan”.

“Spartan” was the nickname given to Matt by my good friend Ken Hofmann, founder of The Hofmann Company. Long before Mr. Hofmann owned either the Seattle Seahawks or the Oakland Athletics he had very strong ties to the Bay Area. He has been a major supporter of De La Salle High School in Concord. Many of you know that De La Salle High School has a strong football tradition. The team holds the national record of a 151-game winning streak from 1992 to 2004. And who was a wide receiver on that team? It was our “Spartan” – Matt Padilla. He played varsity football for four years and never lost a game. He excelled physically on the field and academically in the classroom.

Matt brought that winning spirit to Scott’s Restaurants twenty-two years ago. He began as a banquet server in Walnut Creek and a few years later he was promoted to the position of Banquet Operations Manager. He wanted to learn more about our restaurant and the service industry so he became the Bar Manager for our waterfront location in Jack London Square in Oakland. While in Oakland, he then became a Dining Room Manager. In 2008 his responsibilities were shifted to the Contra Costa side of the Caldecott Tunnel and he was given his greatest restaurant challenge. He became the General Manager for Scott’s – Walnut Creek and the Behring Museums at Blackhawk.

Matt is always very positive and upbeat. His employees will tell you he is a pleasure to work with; and he is very popular with and trusted by our guests.

He is a great family man and loves his children. He is the proud father of two beautiful daughters and a future “Spartan”. I am glad to share with you that not only is Matt an amazing manager and involved father; I also think of him as a true friend.

Matt and I both look forward to seeing you at Scott’s Restaurant in Walnut Creek when we soon reopen for another winning season.
